Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you want to know more - Here are some common questions

What's involved in my first consultation?

We start with a detailed history of your concerns, followed by a comprehensive assessment to understand the nature of your presentation. We go through the findings together and make sure you have a full understanding of what is going on and any questions you may have. After this we begin your first treatment session along with an understanding of the next steps we need to take, together in order to achieve the desired outcomes.

Do I need a referral to see a Chiropractor?

No, you don't need a referral and can book directly with us via online bookings, or calling us.

Does Medicare or Private Insurance cover Chiropractic?

Great question! Yes, Medicare can cover your consultation for up to 5 visits through a GP approved Enhanced Primary Care Plan. If you have private health cover, please make sure you have Chiropractic included in your 'Extras' cover. We claim your benefit instantly and you only pay the gap fee.

What is the difference between a Chiro & a Physio?

Great question — and honestly, the line has blurred a lot in modern practice.

Both chiropractors and physiotherapists treat pain and injury, but the approach differs. Physios traditionally focus on exercise-based rehabilitation, while chiropractors focus on diagnosing and treating issues with the spine, joints, and nervous system — and how those affect the way your whole body moves and functions.

At Meridian, we've built our practice to give you the best of both worlds. Our two senior chiropractors hold remedial massage degrees, so hands-on soft tissue work is part of how we treat — not an add-on. We also place a strong emphasis on rehabilitation exercises, so you're not just getting adjusted and sent home. You leave with a plan to keep improving between visits.

Do you treat Sports Injuries?

Short answer — yes, and it's one of our specialties.

Whether you've rolled an ankle on the weekend, tweaked your back at the gym, or you're dealing with a niggling injury that just won't go away, we've got you covered. Our chiropractors have worked directly with basketball, football, soccer, and cricket clubs, so we understand how athletes move, train, and compete — and what it takes to get you back doing what you love as quickly as possible.

We don't just treat the injury itself. We look at why it happened in the first place — whether that's a movement pattern, muscle imbalance, or joint restriction — and build a treatment plan that combines hands-on chiropractic care, soft tissue work, and rehabilitation exercises to fix the cause, not just the symptoms.

From weekend warriors to serious competitors, we treat athletes at every level. If you're hurt and want to get back on the field, court, or track — we're the team behind your team.

Do you treat disc injuries and postural issues?

Disc injuries

Whether you've been told you have a bulging disc, herniated disc, or are dealing with shooting pain, numbness, or sciatica, chiropractic care can make a real difference. Disc injuries rarely need surgery — in most cases, the right hands-on treatment combined with targeted rehabilitation exercises can significantly reduce pain and restore normal movement.

Postural issues

Poor posture is one of the biggest drivers of chronic neck pain, upper back tension, and headaches — especially for people spending long hours at a desk. But posture isn't just about "sitting up straight." It's about how your spine, joints, and muscles are working together.

At Meridian, we identify the underlying cause of your postural problems — whether that's joint stiffness, muscle weakness, or movement habits — and treat it with a combination of chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and exercises you can do at home or at work.

How many sessions will I need?

It's one of the most common questions we get — and we'll always give you an honest answer, not a vague one.

The truth is, it depends on what's going on. A recent sports injury or acute flare-up can often show significant improvement in just a few sessions. A long-standing disc injury, chronic postural issue, or something you've been putting up with for years will naturally take a little longer to unwind.

What we can promise is this — at your very first appointment, we'll give you a clear picture of what we're dealing with, what treatment looks like, and a realistic timeframe for your recovery. No surprises, no open-ended treatment plans.

As a rough guide:

Acute injuries — 3 to 6 sessions in most cases

Chronic or complex conditions — typically 6 to 12 sessions, with noticeable improvement along the way

Maintenance and performance care — ongoing and entirely your choice, based on how your body responds and your goals

Does this sound familiar?

  • "I've tried everything and nothing has worked"

  • "This injury is stopping me from doing what I love"

  • "I've just accepted the pain as normal — but I'm sick of it"
